Episode 5 is released and this is now Project 9
Geez I really need to sleep its 6am but 3 months after I thought I would be able to finish the next episode I finally finished it so here it is
Lemee just say its been an amazing time making this so far and it always has been and Im probably not going to make this game end. This game is turning out to be an episodic thing, where I can write episodes and update to it whenever I want. Which I really do want to write more of! By now I can pretty much make a renpy game thats at least as good as this game, and you could expect me to start doing so, but Ive become quite attached to this masterpiece Ive created here. Crazy to think this used to be just an old testing grounds for renpy code. Anyway so yeah this is an actual game and Im going to respect it as such from now on and you can read a more coherent articulation of my sentiment in this post in the about screen in version 5.1 which was rewritten a bit earlier in the day way before it was 6am now that Im tired and rambly.
Also a whole lot of some stuff got updated by which I mean the achievements screen, the achivements themselves, and the menu UI, AND the password terminal; mostly the password terminal because although nothing changed on the outside what I did was rewrite the backend of it with labels and calls to drastically cut down on the number of repeated lines because if I left it the way it was, then every next password would have said "unlock episode 1", "unlock episode 2", "unlock episode3", etc etc up to episode whichever it was, which is really really bad because you would have to say that for EVERY new password in every new episode that comes out and its really redundant. So I did something really smart and wrote it to unlock the latest episode first, and go from the top down, inserting labels in between according to which episode password it is and what its supposed to unlock. So this way Id only need to write the setting the persistent variable to "unlock episode 1" line ONCE for each new episode. And the whole menu ui colors have been changed, everything just looks different because colors are nicer than the previous grey that was hard to read.
Also the jukebox from the episode was added because I dunno why not. After you finish episode 5 the jukebox unlocks and you can see it as a tab in the music room screen when you get it. Ill put more songs in there later.
AAAND Now its 6.30am. I was trying to just say everything like blarg and type fast but I realize it sort of backfired because I ended up writing MORE STUFF which probably took MORE TIME than if I focused and wrote devlogs normally like before. Whoops. But at the same time Im kind of laughing and its really fun just to write words, and see, Im even having fun laughing at myself writing the devlog now. So yeah everything about making this game has been amazingly fun.
Im going to sleep. See you next time when I finish episode 6 whenever that is be that next month or next year. Because this is Project 9 now, A designation I give to all my fanfics/literary works of length because theyre all quite long and its all one big series thats conceptually interconnected and I can never stop writing it because writing is fun.
GOOD NIGHT
